Besides painting, Jeganathan is also a poetry lover. Often, his inspirations and thoughts are penned down in the form of poems. The subject varies according to the mood and situation. Most of Jeganathan's paintings are also accompanied with a poem.

"PAUSE" is a sound room set up by Jeganathan ,which help clients to relax and distress. The whole process requires the client to lie on a bed in a dark room (sound proof and treated with nanotechnology) and view at a painting while the background music plays. Both the painting and music is done based on the musical notes, sa-ri-ga-ma-pa-tha-ni-sa. The whole process takes 27 minutes and by the time the session is over, the client is relaxed.

What started as a home business gradually expanded and Symbols House of Natural Art was started one and a half years ago in Brickfields. Initially it was conceived as an art gallery but as we had more than paintings to offer to our clients, we became more of a studio where various activities were initiated.

We had twelve volumes of handbooks titled Hindu Science through our home business and when we shifted to this new studio, we allotted a special place for our books and continued the series.

The owner and the gallery resident artist, Jeganathan Ramachandram, who also happens to be the author of the Hindu Science series took it further by doing his Nadha Brahmam reading in the premise.

In year 2007, with the help of a special patron, Mr Thiaga Sunder, we built a special room where one can distress and even heal through sound, light and aromatherapy called "PAUSE".

Soon, the demand by clients brought about art classes for adult and children, using an ancient system of learning known as “Gurukulam”. And the latest inclusion to this ever expanding place is Sound appreciation class; teaching people to chant mantras in a proper way using an ancient sound methodology.

Our aim is to have a place where people of all walks will get to understand and appreciate the arts and science of the ancient mystics.

Currently, we are located in a home studio in Jalan Ipoh.

• Have you wondered how life would be if it was just BLACK and WHITE, without SOUND and SMELL?

• Why is the grass green, hair black and sky blue?

• Why do the bees buzz, the cows moo and snakes hiss?

• Why would creation unfold itself into the many colors and sound that we experience around us?

• Why do we call a certain place a ‘red light’ area?

• Why is night dark?

• And why is the color blue related to spirituality?
  

In this project, held at National Art Gallery, Malaysia, Jeganathan answered these questions and explained the relationship of sound and colour with the human body through his informal talk.

Commissioned by: Help University College & Dragonet Diving for Project AWARE.

Corals are very sensitive and they take a long time to grow. However, even one accidental flap of a diver's fin can destroy it forever.

This worrying fact initiated a campaign to educate the public. Held by HELP University College, local dive centre, Dragonet Diving and Symbols House of Natural Art joined hands to make this campaign a success. The campaign was in conjunction with the marine conservation international project campaign named Aquatic World Awareness, Responsibility and Education (Aware).

The four-day campaign, themed 'Stepping On Corals Will Destroy Them Forever', was to create awareness and educate the public and their students on protecting marine life, especially corals.

The heart-shaped kolam depicting the marine life ecosystem like corals and sea creatures, designed by Symbols House of Natural Art's artist, Jeganathan Ramachandram reflected how a single touch or even an accidental swipe of the feet on the design could destroy the beautiful motives, a grim reminder that coral reefs suffer the same consequences as well.

The kolam took about five hours to construct.

"Ethereal Colours of Sound" is a series of paintings based on chakras. This series is under the collection of Prince Court Medical Center, one of the largest private hospitals in Klang Valley which is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.



What are chakras? How are these paintings done?

Chakras are vibratory points in the body and each one of us possess a specific dominant chakra within us. Using the veenai, Jeganathan plays the name of a person and identifies his/ her sound pattern. Later, this sound pattern is used to specify the sound chakra of that person. Upon client's request or advice from Jeganathan, this sound chakra is translated into a painting, to suit the client's needs. Chakra paintings, according to Jeganathan, possess healing properties and has the ability to create a positive vibration for the owner.

The Artist

Jeganathan Ramachandram was born on 17 July 1962 in Kuala Lumpur. Like any creative person, his interest has always been wide and varied, but for need of description, he can be closely categorized as an artist, Manayadi Saastram (Vaasthu) practitioner, Nadha Brahmam analyst and columnist, author, poet and more. His yearning for the deep meaning and mysteries of life has been a long and continuous one, and not surprising, his works symbolically represent how he sees our physical, psychological and spiritual connection with the universe around us.

As for his art training, Jeganathan studied fine arts and traditional Indian painting (Tanjore Art) under Babu Surender, in Chennai, India from 1982 to 1984; granite sculpturing under Sthapathi Thangavelu Achari in Thirupathi, Principal of Thirupathi School of Temple Architecture, India; wood carving under Muthusamy Achari, Indian Classical music with ‘Vithvan’ Veena Arjuna in Madras and also Tantric art with Bootha Muni.

Among the very few Malaysian Indian artists, Jeganathan has exhibited his works in the National Art Gallery, Petronas Gallery and other leading galleries since 1984. A former artist with a leading daily, Jeganathan devoted to painting full time in 2004 when he opened his own art gallery/studio called Symbols House of Natural Art, which was strategically located in the heart of Brickfields. Currently, he is working from his home studio, located at Jalan Ipoh.
