"HOMAGE TO THE MALAY MOON AND THE CHINESE FLOWER"

I'm taking this opportunity to pay homage to the very icon of Indian dance in Malaysia; Ramli Ibrahim for bringing Odissi to the shores of Malaysia. Though there are other good Odissi performers here, many Malaysians like me would not have known the greatness of such a dance form if not for him.

Parveen, a student of Ramli posed for this painting and I dramatised his features with mine and another friend's, David Dass to represent our Indian community expressing our gratitude. The 'mudra' on the right hand represents the crescent, the symbol of the Malays while the left hand represents the lion, symbolising the Chinese community. Hence, Ramli as the moon, and his disciple in devotion, January Low, the chinese flower.
